NAMI Fairbanks Executive Director Job DescriptionNAMI Fairbanks is seeking an Executive Director who is dedicated to the NAMI mission of ending the stigma of mental illness, with a passion and vision for improving the quality of life for all people affected by mental illness.

The Executive Director (ED) is a part-time, exempt position that serves as the key management leader to further the NAMI Fairbanks mission, and management of all fund development, community outreach, programs, administration, and volunteers/staff.

Serving as Executive Director, this individual will provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of NAMI Fairbanks mission, philosophy, strategy and annual goals and objectives.

This position will direct the operations of the organization and take us from a mostly volunteer organization to the next level, making capacity-building a top priority.Qualifications : Passion for the area of mental health and wellness, and deep commitment to supporting those who live with mental illnesses and their loved ones.

Clear sense of integrity, with a commitment to ethically and empathically serving individuals and families with mental illness.

Proven fundraising skills and experience in development and grant writing.

Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills, with availability to develop strong relationships and advocacy across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders.

Willingness to accept new challenge and assignments.

Ability to provide leadership in growing and sustaining a nonprofit organization.

Bachelors degree and 2-3 years leadership/management experience in business, writing, public relations and fundraising preferably as an executive director in a non-profit setting.

Knowledge and lived and/or professional experience with mental illness, co-occurring disorders and the impacts on family systems and their community.

Working knowledge of bookkeeping, donor, and volunteer management.Description of Duties:Leadership : Follow the living Strategic Plan developed by the Board.

Provide direction on annual goal setting and implements the Board-approved strategic plan.

Work with the Board of Directors to develop and maintain the current strategic plan to fulfill NAMI Fairbanks mission and role.

Promote an organizational atmosphere of mutual support and empowerment.Board Relations : Attend all Board meetings, and committee meetings as appropriate.

Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and other committees as necessary.

Partner with the Board to build and sustain long-term relationships with key donors and other key stakeholders, build and maintain relationships with other mental health providers and community partners.

Provide materials essential to Board decision-making.

Assist the Board with all planning needed to carry out the goals of NAMI Fairbanks in accordance with the bylaws and strategic plan.

Through the Board President keeps the Board informed of new issues and controversies.

Submit monthly Executive Director briefs and financial reports to the Board.

Other duties as assigned.Fundraising : Plan and implement all fund development activities including overseeing the preparation and submission of grant proposals, grant management, special events, individual and corporate donor appeals, working with the board of directors.

Ensure transparency, supervision, timely reporting and documentation of all grant requirements and data.Fiscal: Ensure the fiscal integrity and stability of NAMI Fairbanks.

Assist the Board in the exercise of its fiduciary responsibility by managing the organizations funds and property, maintaining proper financial controls and records.

Oversee financial development to ensure that financial resources are available to support approved plans, meet long-term financial needs, and response to new opportunities.

Develop and propose an annual budget, ensuring that financial reports and budget documents are maintained in a timely fashion and in accordance with the law.Public Relations: Advocate for those with mental illness and their families, work consistently to erase the stigma attached to mental illness and promote adequate in-patient and community-based mental health services.

Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders, serving as a liaison between the Board of Directors, volunteers, NAMI members, donors, strategic partners and other community human service organizations.

Initiate and direct the development of NAMI Fairbanks policies driven by consumers and family members and created for the specific purpose of enhancing the services available to consumers and family members.

In collaboration with NAMI Alaska, actively participate in advocacy efforts relating to issues and legislation on mental illness/mental health.

Oversee social media including website and newsletter creation and updates.

Maintain a welcoming, diverse and inclusive work environment for volunteers and visitors.Office Responsibilities : The ED is expected to maintain part time regular office hours each week at the NAMI Fairbanks office but he/she can also work from home.

Maintain our profile center on the NAMI website including uploading documents, updating membership information and reporting program data.

Maintain office records and files.Education and Support Programs Oversight : In collaboration with NAMI Alaska, ensure quality, stability and expansion of programs in areas of family and peer education and support, and community outreach.

Work with the board to continually recruit teachers, facilitators, guest speakers, and program participants.

Build a strong volunteer, member and donor base and facilitate further training and utilization of volunteers.Note: This position is a part-time contract position, with the opportunity to expand into a full time position as funding becomes available.
