n n nn Tracking Code 20201840 Job Description nn Job incumbent provides direct clinical services including psychiatric assessment, advanced health evaluations, psychotherapy and medication prescription, primarily in an outpatient setting to Indian Health Beneficiaries at Tanana Chiefs Conference Behavioral Health Services.

Incumbent uses pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to meet the needs of individuals, couples and groups across the lifespan.

nn Required Skills nn Representative Duties: Under general supervision of the Behavioral Health Director job incumbent will: nn nn Systematically assess patients’ health status, arrives at appropriate diagnoses, and implements care plan for effective clinical outcomes.

nn Completes comprehensive psychiatric behavioral health assessments, diagnosis, psychiatric medication prescription and monitoring.

Provides short term individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy for acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses.

Considers thorough range of treatment/preventive options and arrives at a recommended course of action that is age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic, and attainable.

Appropriately manages patient care and health status following initiation of treatment/preventive plan, and monitors and adjusts as warranted.

Seeks consultation by providing adequate information to consulting physicians.

Communicates requests effectively, or responds to such requests from the referral source in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.

Documents according to established guidelines to facilitate ongoing quality of care in a timely manner.

Completes routine charting to include dictating behavioral health evaluations and progress notes to ensure compliance with Medicaid and other applicable regulations to document diagnosis, assessment, intervention, referral, consultation and related functions.

Performs the appropriate medical procedures within the scope of TCC Behavioral Health Services as defined by the credentialing and privileging processes overseen by TCC’s Medical Executive Committee.

Delegates direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel.

Actively participates in collaborative care with other BH providers including other psychiatrists, case managers behavioral health aides and counselors.

Responds appropriately to emergent situations.

Maintains and improves skill level through participation in relevant continuing medical education.

Actively participates in clinical quality improvement initiatives.

Reviews and follows up on complaints and concerns about medical care.

Takes actions to ensure continuity of care for patients such as providing appropriate follow up after hospitalization, emergency room, and/or specialty care visits.

Provides services to support the rural health care needs of the region served to include periodic village trips as determined by role, use of telehealth when appropriate, and full support of behavioral health aides.

Provides services in other health care facilities as indicated by role as defined by the credentialing and privileging processes of the specific health care facility.

nn Productivity Expectations: nn 90 minutes for standard evaluation appointments; 30 minutes for medication management appointments.

Physician will be maintaining an active caseload The target caseload is to see an average of 8 to 12 clients per day Productivity will be reviewed quarterly and TCC will provide necessary support staff to aid in efficiency and flow.

nn Participates in access planning for the medical team, ensuring appropriate amount of same-day patient access and availability for timely follow up with patients.

Meets number of direct patient care hours as outlined in the employment agreement.

Works to achieve targeted goals for patient care numbers.

Fulfills commitments for on call assignments with clear communication and follow through on work initiated during call.

Supports appropriate billing for professional services through timely documentation and maintaining adequate knowledge of TCC’s Health Services billing policies and procedures.

Adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.

Assists with the preparation for regulatory surveys.

Responds to telephone calls in a timely fashion.

Appropriately prescribes and orders ancillary services.

Utilizes referral sources appropriately.

nn Provides leadership for practice and community served nn Serves as a resource to colleagues and support staff, enhancing quality of care.

Contributes to the training, orientation, and evaluation of clinical support staff.

Regularly attends and actively participates in clinic staff meetings and medical staff meetings.

Participates in community education and other professional activities to promote TCC Behavioral Health Services.

Analyzes multiple sources of data, identifies alternative possibilities to the nature of the behavioral health problem and selects appropriate treatment.

Assesses physical condition and orders various tests (e.g., laboratory, neurological and psychological) as indicated.

May provide treatment in or consultation to villages on an as-needed basis Provides training and consultation for other staff or students as requested by supervisor.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

nn Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: nn Experience with adult, and adolescent service provision; specialized testing/evaluation; DSM IV – diagnosis; severely emotionally disturbed children; chronic mental illness; dual diagnosis and integrated treatment for substance abuse and mental illness; treatment planning; treatment coordination; crisis intervention; consultation; routine charting; Medicaid regulations; and professional reports, prefer familiarity with Fairbanks area, Alaska interior regional, and statewide mental health services and substance abuse treatment providers.

Cross-cultural treatment skills and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures and traditional preferred, familiarity with the culture and needs of individuals of Alaska Native descent.

Strong Computer skills using word-processing network servers, electronic health records and scheduling systems, and Microsoft office.

Strong verbal communication, analytical and interpersonal skills required.

Must have initiative and prioritizing skills.

Must work as part of a team providing quality care.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality of patients.

nn Supervision:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  nn Required Experience M.D.

or D.O.

degree and successful graduation from an accredited psychiatric residency program in the U.S.A.

Current DEA license with the authority to prescribe and dispense legend drugs and schedule 2-5 controlled substances in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.

State of Alaska Board certified or Board eligible as a Psychiatrist.

Three years’ experience in a behavioral health clinic or hospital providing services with one year post residency experience.

Three years’ experience with DSM IV diagnosis, treatment coordination, planning, and follow up, crisis intervention, consultation and coordination with medical staff, other agencies and providers, routine charting and writing professional reports.

Three years of clinical supervision experience.

Previous clinical experience in cross-cultural or tribal health setting preferred.

Previous experience with dual diagnosis, detoxification and addiction treatment strongly preferred.
