Job DescriptionAnalyzes and corrects electrical problems, installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties: Essential Functions:Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment. Connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Machine Repairer and Maintenance Tool Maker, to diagnose malfunction.Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.Pushes buttons and presses keys on robot controller, teach pendant, and programmable controller to program automated machinery, such as robots, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.Inspects electrical systems.Understand and implement safe working procedures, in accordance with Trident policy and governmental regulations.Plan details of working procedure by determining replacement needs or new material required and develop a logical approach to correct the problem.Analyze circuits, wiring diagrams, and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service, or replace electronic devices and systems.Receive wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions from supervisor covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installations, and electrical inspection work to be performed.Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials, and principles of operation of electrical equipment. Start up and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.Service electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices.Install, repair, and maintain communication cables and power distribution cables, splicing pieces as required.Determine needs for, analyze, and make necessary running adjustments, repairs and overhauls.Advise and caution operators and mechanics about potential electrical problems and the inherent dangers involved.Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective actions taken.Additional Responsibilities:Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.Understands and follows all Lock out/Tag out procedures.May be part of a mechanical team on major installations: must work efficiently and effectively with all other trades such as machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, etc.RequirementsFifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Journeyman level or higher competency. Certified in ‘HOT’ work. Certified in application of ARC FLASH controls.Experience:Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 4-years of related experience. Special Training/Skills:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must be able to climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs or vertical ladders both inside or outside in all weather conditions. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception. May be required to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products.Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank , the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted. Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less. Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated life boat station.Mental Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills.
