Patient Care Technician

Providence is calling a Patient Care Technician (Medical Surgical, Variables, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all – especially those who are poor and vulnerable.In this position you will:* Demonstrate understanding of and provides care according to Standards of Practice and the patient’s Nursing Care Plan. These duties are under the supervision of the Primary Caregiver and/or Professional Associate. Performs duties to assist in activities of daily living such as bathing, ambulating, and nourishment* Record vital signs, I&O, weights, ADLs, meal intake, and other required documentation in an accurate, concise, and timely manner* Report changes in patient condition, problematic and unusual circumstances to Primary Caregiver and Professional Associates. Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and co-workers* Communicate effectively with the RN or other caregivers regarding patient issues, family issues, MD issues, and equipment. Communicate in a compassionate manner to patients, families, and visitors* Assist in the patient admitting, transfer, and discharge procedure. Transport patients via wheelchair and stretcher* Check and restock supplies and emergency equipment and replaces as instructed. Maintain and operate multiple pieces of equipment in a safe and effective manner to improve patient care* Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served* Support and assist with orientation and/or preceptorship of new staff and/or students* Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and departmentRequired qualifications for this position include:* High School graduate or General Equivalency Degree (GED)Preferred qualifications for this position include:* Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant or any equivalent Combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience* Completion of CNA program or 6 months of health care experienceAbout the Providence Valdez Medical CenterProvidence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
