JOB TITLE:Payroll SpecialistJOB LOCATION:Naknek, AKSTATUS: Seasonal / Non-exemptREPORTS TO:Office Manager SUMMARY: Maintains and provides accurate, confidential payroll information; maintains and updates payroll records; resolves payroll discrepancies; and prepares management reports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Maintains accurate daily payroll information by collecting and entering data and editing and verifying computerized time records.Prepares daily labor costings reports by product for management, as well as to enable payroll processing at end of pay period.Maintains and updates payroll records by recording changes in status such as exemptions, insurance coverage, saving deductions and pay rates.Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.Resolves payroll discrepancies, and answers employee inquiries regarding lost checks, issuance of W-2 statements, etc.Provides payroll information to employees, management, and others by responding to inquiries regarding verification of employment, unemployment insurance requests, notifying Child Support Services of new hires, etc.Complies with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to these requirements, and advising management of needed action for compliance.Maintains time-keeping equipment.Follows all company safety policies and procedures.Responds to change productively and handles other duties as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with good phone etiquette and excellent interpersonal skills for positive interaction with employees at all levels within the Company, as well as representatives from regulatory agencies. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes overtime and seven-day work weeks during the season. This position requires the ability to learn quickly, work with little or no supervision, and function effectively in a team-oriented work environment. Must have intermediate level personal computer skills/experience, including word processing (Word) and spreadsheet (Excel) skills, and 10-key by touch. Experience with UltiPro & Lathem time-keeping systems a plus. Minimum of one (1) year payroll experience, including a minimum of six (6) months experience in processing and verifying time records on computerized time-keeping systemMust have the ability to work well under pressure, 12 or more hours per day, 7 days per week.Must be willing and able to work with other departments in a team atmosphere.Must be willing and able to live and work in confined quarters in a multi-cultural environment.Working knowledge of the seafood industry helpful.Must always be professional and represent OBI Seafoods with the highest standards.Must be able to work well with fellow employees and cooperate with other departments.Must be able to work and live at a remote work site for the term of employment.Prompt and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. COMPENSATION:Pay rate depends on experience. This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime pay. In Alaska, overtime is one and one-half times the regular hourly rate and is paid for hours worked over 8 hours in a day and after 40 hours are worked in a week.Room and Board Included.Excellent benefits available, including medical, dental, prescription, vision plans, and 401(k) retirement plan. WORK ENVIRONMENT Working Conditions and Physical Effort: • Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise. • Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards. • Position requires the ability to stand, sit at a desk, walking around office and plant, lifting, and carrying packages up to 50 pounds, utilizing fine dexterity. Requires reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting to inspect equipment. Also requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette. • Personal protective equipment, as defined by OBI Seafoods, will be provided. • Position will be exposed to different levels of stress and responsibilities.
