Ground Based Midcourse Defense Network Defense Incident Response Specialist


This is a Contract position in Fort Greely, AK posted September 24, 2020.

Program Protection & Security is currently looking for a Network Defense & Incident Response Specialist to join their team in Ft Greely, AK. This position will perform network monitoring across the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system to detect, report, and respond to security relevant events.

The successful candidate will coordinate with system security and operations personnel for the real-time monitoring and response activities to identify and eliminate cyber-threats to GMD systems and networks.

Position Responsibilities

– Performs incident response activities across broad technology profiles or multiple systems.
– Interrogates industry sources and evaluates incident indicators.
– Determines nature, mechanisms, scope and location of the incident.
– Collects and preserves evidence, identifies intrusion or incident path and method.
– Performs event correlation and malware analysis.
– Isolates, blocks or removes threat access.
– Drafts incident/investigation reports and makes recommendation for future process enhancements.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Export Control Requirement

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R.

– 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

– Network traffic monitoring or Security Information Event Monitor (SIEM) experience
– Minimum 1 year Incident Response & Reporting experience
– DoD 857O IAT-II certification
– Capable of working a rotating shift

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

– Experience with Wide Area Network (WAN) Topology and Enclaves
– Experience using SNORT, SPLUNK or OSSEC technologies
– Experience with Network Operation Center functions

Typical Education & Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 6 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Master+4 years’ related work experience, 10 years’ related work experience, etc.).


This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
