At NMS, we expect our employees to fulfill that mission in every aspect of their work.SummaryThis position carries out those activities required to maintain and repair facilities and HVAC systems throughout AlaskaEssential Duties and Responsibilities* Performs skilled inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to heating and ventilation systems.* Inspects and repairs boilers, furnaces, and unit heaters.* Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical equipment for industrial applications* Performs electrical testing and repairs to facility equipment to include replacing circuits, switches, receptacles, ballasts, light fixtures, etc* Installs and services standard plumbing fixtures, piping, drains, and supply lines* Performs a variety of skilled building maintenance tasks including repairs to doors, windows, roofs, drywall, carpet, and flooring* Constructs and assembles furniture and other wood and metal structures* Installs and maintains lock systems* Paints, cleans and degreases as necessary walls, equipment and other surfaces* Completes framing and finish carpentry repairs* Installs cabinets, fixtures, pictures, etc* Completes concrete installation and repair* Cleans work area, tools, and equipment* Operates a variety of equipment and machines including various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintains tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition* Purchases when necessary equipment and materials; operates light trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies* Updates completed maintenance tasks and inputs data into a computer maintenance management system* Performs required administrative and documentation tasks* Performs snow removal and other laborer duties as assigned* May transport trash and waste to disposal area* Other duties required to maintain and operate commercial or industrial equipment and facilities* Work will require use of ladders and high lifts* Work will involve night or weekend work* Position requires travel by aircraft up to 75% of the time; overnight travel often necessary* Must adhere to strict safety policies and standards* High school education or GED equivalent.* Highly skilled in maintaining HVAC systems* At least 5 years of directly related experience pertaining to job duties as listed* At least 3 years of experience using computer maintenance management systems* A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years* Incumbent must be able to uphold current State of Alaska driver’s license, and able and willing to fly in small aircraftWorking Conditions and Physical RequirementsWeather: Indoor/Outdoor – occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions; requires work to be done both inside and outside.Noise level: work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.Description of environment: Standard office environmentPhysical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs. Travel is coordinated by NMS.CompetenciesLanguage skills sufficient to:Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence.Math skills sufficient to:Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning abilities sufficient to:Solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
