Compliance Assistant

JOB TITLE:Compliance AssistantJOB LOCATION:Larsen Bay, AKSTATUS: Seasonal / Non-exemptREPORTS TO:Safety Manager SUMMARY: Located on remote Kodiak Island, our Larsen Bay plant is a historic salmon cannery that was originally built by Alaska Packers Association in 1911.

The principal products manufactured and packaged at this location are canned salmon, fresh/frozen H&G salmon, frozen salmon fillets, and salmon roe.

The plant operates from June through September and employs a crew of 250 workers.

The Compliance Assistant is responsible for gathering and organizing information pertaining to environmental compliance, work safety and health.

This position requires working through a daily checklist, while prioritizing and setting own work flow.

Assist with paperwork and training specific to environmental/medical/human resources.

This position requires the Compliance Assistant to be available days, evenings and weekends during the operation season. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Boiler and Engine operating logs – scanned weekly.WWTP – assist with the sample shipping, records scanned weekly.PSM – records management using new system.R22 Ice machine monitoring logs – scanned weekly.Daily environmental compliance seashore monitoring.Daily outflow monitoring for fish parts waste – daily grind-size exceedance log.Daily monitoring of waste containment area – including barrel organization and proper labelingMonitoring used waste oil, monitor proper handling, labeling and storage – shipped south at end of season.Assist in monthly inspections.SDS/MSDS bi-yearly update, go through 600+ chemicals onsite, 200+ hours.Assist in updating training logs and crew orientations.Inventory and tracking; including chemicals plant-wide, infirmary, PPE (personal protective equipment).Prompt, reliable, and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.Must be willing and able to work with other departments in a team atmosphere as time allows.Must be willing and able to live and work in confined quarters in a multi-cultural environment.Must always be professional and represent OBI Seafoods with the highest standards.Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Environmental compliance background preferred.Safety and/or medical background preferred.Must be a detail-oriented person.Must have general computer knowledge and skills.Ability to work efficiently in fast past environment with little direct supervision.Excellent organizational and communication skills required.Must always be professional and represent OBI Seafoods with the highest standards.Able to work well under pressure, 16 or more hours a day, 7 days a week. COMPENSATION:Pay rate depends on experience.

This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime pay.

In Alaska, overtime is one and one-half times the regular hourly rate and is paid for hours worked over 8 hours in a day and after 40 hours are worked in a week.Room and Board Included.Excellent benefits available, including medical, dental, prescription, vision plans, and 401(k) retirement plan. • Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise.

• Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards.

• Position requires the ability to stand, sit at a desk, walking around office and plant, lifting, and carrying packages up to 50 pounds, utilizing fine dexterity.

Requires reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting to inspect equipment.

Also requires the ability to see, Hear, and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.

• Personal protective equipment, as defined by OBI Seafoods, will be provided.

• Position will be exposed to different levels of stress and responsibilities.
