Shareholder Intern

INTERN MUST BE A SHAREHOLDER OF OLGOONIK CORPORATION. This is a temporary position available for the summer to high school students in 11th & 12th grade and college or vocational school students. The Shareholder Intern will work in all areas of Olgoonik Corporation in Wainwright, learning the duties of employees at the Hotel/Restaurant, Store, Fuel Station, and OC Office. The Shareholder Intern will assist with the Annual Meeting of Shareholders and perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

The intern will be required to interact with other Olgoonik employees and members of the public. The intern will learn the various aspects of Olgoonik’s operations in Wainwright, including:

  • Performs duties of cashier, waiter, and housekeeper as needed at the Hotel/Restaurant.
  • May perform duties of a kitchen helper, cook or van driver, if minimum requirements are met to work safely in those environments.
  • Learns basic concepts of ordering and inventory of supplies, working closely with the Hotel/Restaurant Manager or other employees to understand how the Hotel/Restaurant operates.
  • Performs duties of cashier/stocker in the store, including general housekeeping.
  • Learns basic concepts of ordering and inventory of supplies, working closely with the Store Manager or other employees to understand how the Store operates.
  • Performs duties of cashier/stocker at the Fuel Station Office.
  • Learns how to operate fuel dispensers, learns safety requirements associated with operations, and learns daily reporting requirements.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties.
  • Shadows OC Office employees, including General Manager, to learn various job duties relating to Shareholder Services, Human Resources, Accounting, Governance, Stock, and Lands departments in the OC Office.
  • Assists with filing, making copies, posting open positions, making new-hire packets, contacting people, learning about maps, going out in the field with Lands personnel, and assisting with the coordination and completion of the Annual Meeting of Shareholders. May assist with meetings, including ordering lunch, setting up conference rooms, and putting together packets. May assist with processing paperwork, including bereavement assistance, donations, scholarships, and training requests.
  • General Duties will include daily cleaning, inventory, answering phones and sending out faxes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. However, the intern may be placed in situations that help develop their leadership and supervisory skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma is preferred, but not required. Applicant must be enrolled in high school (11th or 12th grade) or enrolled in a college, university, or a trade school.
  • Most importantly, the intern must have a positive attitude and be willing to learn more about Olgoonik’s daily operations in the Wainwright, Alaska.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be an Olgoonik Corporation Shareholder or descendant of Olgoonik Corporation.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to or learn to prepare short correspondence.
  • Must be able to work independently to meet deadlines.
