Marine Transportation The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan CampusPosition Summary:The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus is seeking an experienced mariner to teach maritime classes at the UAS Maritime Training Center in Ketchikan, Alaska.

The program operates from a well equipped Maritime Training Center.

The position is a full-time, 9-month term appointment.

We are looking for a skilled instructor, who likes teaching, is highly motivated, and who works well with a variety of constituents, from students and faculty to industry partners.

Salary commensurate with experience.

This position will remain open until filled.Duties:Teach STCW/USCG approved maritime courses.

Assist in promotion of maritime program through working with industry stakeholders, community groups.

Attend industry-specific events, trade shows, and meetings to represent UASK maritime programs.

Ability to communicate effectively in person, on the phone, and through electronic means.

Work with maritime faculty and staff to ensure all equipment is functioning and maintained.

Willingness and ability to work with maritime faculty and IT staff to provide effective education through marine simulator operation.

Assist with US Coast Guard curriculum development, renewals, record keeping, and audits.Located in the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples, the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is fully committed to advancing the education and research aspirations of Indigenous peoples and is committed to ongoing work toward decolonization.

These efforts are reflected in our UAS programs and formal community partnerships across our three campuses and throughout all of Southeast Alaska.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Computer literacyProfessional demeanorDemonstrated organizational skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skillsFlexible and adaptable; Demonstrated experience in vessel maintenance; Evidence of teaching ability and curriculum development, especially USCG approved curriculum; Training and experience in navigation, navigation systems, bridge resource management, seamanship, rules of the road, and basic safety standards; Evidence of a strong work ethic through increasing professional responsibilities or clear professional development; Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people; Budget planning, implementation and management experience; Supervisory experience and leadership ability, including mentoring; Experience working with grants, including input, review and implementation.TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:Five or more years of work experience in the maritime industry.

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills; basic computer skills.REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:A.A.

or A.A.S.
