Position Summary:

The UAA School of Social Work is holding an open recruitment for adjunct instructors who are interested in expanding their practice to include curriculum, course, and instructional design of child welfare content for the purposes of educating BSW and MSW students who want to advance their professional and career development in child welfare.


100 Applicants will be responsible for (1) organizing child welfare content in tribal, public, and non-profit contexts, (2) designing modules addressing the needs of BSW and MSW students preparing for practicum, positions, or careers in child welfare, (3) incorporating research and practice content into modules, (4) assessing content using the input from practicing child welfare personnel, professionals, and administrators, (5) collaborating with faculty members in translating content into online, virtual, or face-to-face formats, and (6) assisting in the evaluation of student competencies who complete modules Essential

Position Information:
The School of Social Work is seeking applicants for its adjunct labor pool, particularly for positions that incorporate non-instructional work, but involves curriculum advancement. The School is dedicated to providing strong and innovative Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) curricula that encourage lifelong learning, critical thinking, and effective professional social work practice that address the needs of Alaska. Due to COVID mandates and safety, the BSW program is distanced delivered, while the MSW program is delivered to students across Alaska through distance education. Applicants should have a background and interest in online learning and other approaches to instruction through digital, interactive, and video conferencing methods.

Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute a hiring agreement, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available in subsequent semesters. Hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis, according to the needs of that semester’s schedule, and needs that arise during the course of a given semester. We seek to identify talented adjunct faculty the School of Social Work can invest in, provide training and mentoring to prior and during instruction, and establish long term working relationships to enhance the diversity and practice experience of our collective faculty for the benefit of our students and programs.

Required Experience:
Applicants must have experience relevant to teaching specific course content in child welfare. Knowledge of instructional design. Competency in online education tools. Communication skills.

Required Education:
A graduate degree in a field relevant to child welfare including but not limited to social work, counseling, counseling psychology, or family relations.

Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment. Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service and recognized by UAA. Applicants must be residents of the state of Alaska or have substantial experience teaching or practicing in Alaska. Successful applicants must also complete a background check.
