Director of Assisted Living

The Director of Assisted Living Homes provides services to Hope support recipients through their work in assuring quality teaching and support services are provided for all individuals living in the Agency operated Assisted Living Homes (ALHs). This position is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the licensed residential environments, including planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring service and administrative activities. This position utilizes strategies in alignment with organizational culture and the management and service philosophy of Hope. The Director of Assisted Living Homes develops and maintains network budgets and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and policies and procedures of the Agency. This position, working through the Assisted Living Home Supervisor, monitors expenditures, develops employees and maintains adequate staffing levels, and contributes to the overall planning and development of the Agency. The Director of Assisted Living Homes maintains loyalty to the organization, its beliefs, values, mission, vision, and expectations and to the recipients of services.

Job Duties:

Essential Job Duties

1. Leads and manages the activities of the Network, including all administrative and support functions.

2. Supervises, develops, evaluates, counsels, and disciplines staff through teaching, coaching and mentoring. Collaborates in all aspects of onboarding personnel to fulfill department requirements. Directly supervises Assisted Living Home Supervisors.

3. Maintains adequate staffing levels. Participates in personnel action including recommending hiring and separation of employment, interviewing, evaluating, and disciplining, either personally or by delegation to the Assisted Living Home Supervisors.

4. Coordinates with the Adult Licensing Specialist for initial licensing of Agency operated ALHs, ongoing compliance with licensing regulations, and health and safety standards and regulations. Ensures Assisted Living Home Supervisors understand and assist in compliance with these regulations. Works with the maintenance division as needed.

5. Ensures Home Alliances are providing quality services for each support recipient through staff and team meetings, analysis of goals and objectives for the Plan of Care and/or support plan, and monitoring of progress through observation, notes, and data review, either personally or by delegation.

6. Encourages the socialization of support recipients through maximizing the use of community resources and services.

7. Ensures compliance with all applicable Medicaid standards, regulations and guidelines, grants, and licensing. Ensures that Agency Standard Operating Procedures are observed consistently by staff through training, in-services and specific directions. Recommends revised and/or new Standard Operating Procedures as necessary.  

8. Promotes professionalism of employees by setting a professional example and communicating performance expectations through both formal and informal performance evaluations.

9. Leads or participates in planning and development activities for the Network, including staff training in specific procedures and techniques, changes in the ALHs’ locations or focus, as well as emerging trends or issues.

10. Manages network budget, monitors expenditures, approves purchase requests, and exercises cost control. Works with Home Resources regarding home financial management concerns, including support recipients’ finances within the home.

11. Ensures proper investigations are completed when complaints are made. Coordinates with the Compliance Specialist–Investigator and assists with investigations as needed. Reports on outcomes to internal and external sources.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services or closely related field required. Concentration of study in Special Education, Developmental Disabilities, Behavioral Sciences or other directly related area preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Experience in lieu of education may be accepted on a two for one basis in appropriate fields. 

2. Four years of experience working in a Social Service field required; two years of which must be in a supervision and service coordination capacity.

Additional Requirements

1. Possesses a valid Alaska Driver’s license and has at least one year of driving experience (may include permit time). Obtains a driving record at time of employment and as requested by management.

2. Able to safely operate Agency vehicles when needed. Possesses reliable transportation and vehicle insurance when transporting support recipients or conducting Agency business.

3. Meets State and Agency requirements for passing a criminal background check upon hire and as required thereafter.

4. Lifts 35 pounds from a squat and kneel position on the floor.

5. Works at desk/computer workstation or sits in meetings for a minimum of six hours per day.

6. May be required to frequently walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, pull and/or push.

7. Completes all required State, Agency, Department and position specific training as assigned.

8. Obtains a tuberculin clearance at time of employment and annually thereafter.
